Tyler's Surgery

Well we survived Tyler's tonsillectomy (clck to find out more about why he had this). It was quite an ordeal --- "routine surgery"---

We got to the Primary Children's hospital around 8 am to check in. I LOVED the place, it was so geared towards children... but I was still a nervous wreck!

We checked in and the nurse got Tyler's vitals, got him his jammies etc and then he played with toys until it was time to go "in for surgery". He was being really cute and loved the place - he had no idea how much pain he was about to be put through... They gave him a sedative before wheeling him away to "put him under". As they rolled him away, I was wishing I HAD A sedative. I was soooooo scared about the whole thing. He's just so little and the thought of anything bad happening to him makes me so crazy!

Anyways, after about an hour of waiting, the Dr came out to tell us everything went well. It felt like a lot longer. He confirmed Tyler's tonsils were indeed "HUGE" and that his voice would probably even change do to the amount of room that would now be open in his airway. After that, one parent was allowed to go with him in the recovery room for about 20 minutes before he was brought out to the other room. I went in there and he was sooo soooo sad and mad... He was crying and just really frustrated I think. I just held him and rocked him. It near broke my heart.

After he settled a little we stayed in this other area, now dad was allowed in, until he had drunk 4 oz, had his vitals to a certain spot etc... It was about 1 or 2 when we left and were so happy to bring him home to recover... for the next 10 days.

Recovery was more then we expected. They said it would be 7-10 days... It was 10 FULL days. All Tyler wanted to do was sleep and cuddle me. Not anyone else. He didn't even really like people - although grandmas and aunt Michele and Andrea spoiled him. He didn't want to eat, we even had to force him to drink. I took advantage of the full 10 days of rest and cuddling - but was happy when he was back to being happy. Next post: Tyler since the surgery - it's surprising!

Great post! Kind of makes me miss working up there. You were in all the areas that I worked in. They really are great at what they do!
